Rtn. Dr. Meenakshi Venkataraman is an ecologist. She has worked mainly on predator-prey interactions. She has worked with organic marginal farmers using biocontrol methods, and has a keen interest in citizen science. She has authored the first field guide of insects and arachnids in India (A concise field guide to Indian Insects and Arachnids) in 2010 and is awaiting the publication of her second book, A Naturalist guide to Indian insects. She was Secretary (2015-19) of the Nilgiri Natural History Society where her main focus was on organising school nature clubs and using treks as well as talks on the Nilgiris Biosphere to engage with the community. Currently, she hosts the sessions on Natural History at the Ooty Literary Festival.

She joined the Rotary Club of Nilgiris West (RID 3202) in 2014, and has served the club as secretary (2017-18) and President (2018-19). She is the Assistant Governor of the Nilgiris Zone (2020-21) and the District Environmental Chair (RID 3203) for the year 2021-22. Currently, she is the Chairperson for ESRAG South Asia chapter. She is currently finishing setting up a global grant project on setting up a ICU and is a TRF Cadre member in Water and Sanitation group. She is a facilitator for Rotary Leadership Institute in Zone 5 and a Bequest Society Member.
