Rodney was educated at Reading School in Berkshire, England and also spent a year at Lycée Lakanal, Sceaux near Paris. After qualifying as a Solicitor in 1958 Rodney practiced at the Kenya Bar as an Advocate for two years before returning to England in 1961 when he set up his own practice in Reading. When he left private practice in January 1984, the firm had six partners and four offices.

He was then appointed by the Lord Chancellor to be a full-time Regional Administrative Judge of Tribunals in the South East of England. In 1992 he became the first National Chairman of the Independent Tribunal Service – the largest judicial tribunal organization in Great Britain with over 300 tribunal venues. He retired from this full-time post in 1998. He was the Legal Adviser to the British Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Panel from 2000 until 2008. When in private practice, and as a senior Judge, he specialized in tax, company law and social security.

He has been President of the Reading and District Solicitors’ Association and is a Liveryman of the Arbitrators Company and Freeman of the City of London. He was a member of Lloyds of London from 1983 but resigned active underwriting at the end of 2004.

In 2017 he was appointed by the Queen as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to the town of Reading.

For the past twenty years he has been the Chairman of the Trustees of a local Almshouses Charity and is also a Governor of Reading School. He is an active Rotarian since 1973 and has held many International and National posts having been District 1090 Governor in 1987/1988 and President of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) in 1997/1998 (29 Districts). He was Vice Chairman of the 1998 Council on Legislation and was a Member-at-Large twice since. He was the Chairman of the RIBI Environment Group for ten years and is currently a Premises Trustee.

Rodney is married to José and they have one son who is an American architect and twin grand-daughters, aged 19, who live in Clemmons, near Winston Salem, North Carolina. They are at Universities at Emery, Atlanta and North Carolina

Rodney’s hobbies are singing, swimming and golf. José is a member of Inner Wheel and is actively involved in the Women’s Institute and the Chilterns Air Ambulance Charity.
